MEDIEVAL GAMES

About

Medieval games on horseback were an important part of knightly life, combining military training with sport and spectacle. Originating as exercises to prepare cavalry for battle, these contests gradually evolved into organized events that tested skill, speed, and control. Popular activities like ring tilting not only showcased a knight’s abilities but also drew large crowds, becoming a major form of entertainment. Today, these traditions live on in modern reenactments, highlighting both their historical significance and their enduring appeal.

What are medieval games at Hollywood Hill Saddle Club?

Hail and well met! Please allow me to introduce to you a thrilling horse competition. Medieval Games are a glorious mix of working equitation, Western games, and medieval target practices. Competitors compete on a point system, no timers, no judges. Come test your and your horses skill at arms against your fellow equestrians.

What should I wear?

The dress code here is simple. Safe, comfortable, non-derogatory. If you feel safe and comfortable in full plate metal and your best barding then you are welcome to be our knight in shining armor. If you would rather attend in a T-shirt and jeans in your jumping saddle with your cattle roping bridle that is okay too.

Do I need my own weapons?

You do not need to bring your own weapons. Loaner equipment will be available at the event. It may not be well suited to your size or strength, but there will be a small selection available. You may bring your own weapons, but they must be dull, blunted or soft. No metal weapons. No sharp points or edges.
